Canon Susan Joplin

 

Canon Susan Joplin has served as the Canon for Spirituality at St. Paul's Cathedral in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for nearly 30 years.  She's developed leadership and programs in Lectio Divina,  Centering Prayer and other contemplative practices for many years there.

She's trained in Ignatian discipline by the nuns of the Red Plains Monastery in 2005 led by the renowned Sr. Benedicta;  has been leading Ignatian Exercises in many forms since 2006 at the Cathedral and leading retreats and expanding the Exercises into the Episcopal Diocese of OK; completed a 5 year training program to be a Spiritual Director in 2016 through the Roman Catholic Archdiocese and is currently a Spiritual Director.

She began receiving mentoring from the Center for Renewal and Wholeness in Dallas, Texas, in 2017 and is now a trained facilitator for Parker Palmer’s work in Hidden Wholeness. 

Currently, she is receiving professional development from a two year Virginia Seminary program Thriving In Ministry for women beginning a new ministry (program to be completed in 2022); and receiving further study of the Ignatian Exercises according to Teilhard de Chardin with the Rev. Dr. Bob Gardenhire (program to be completed in May, 2021). 

She led postulants of the Diocese in Ignatian Exercises for two years before beginning the current program with Aspirants of the diocese since 2017. Other Diocesan roles have included being Regional Dean for OKC Region,  Board of Examining Chaplains, Liturgical Director for Diocesan Conventions under Bishop Moody, Secretary of Convention for a number of years under both Bishop Moody and Bishop Konieczky.
