Created in the Image Retreat

Created in the Image Retreat
November 13 - 15

Created in the Image is a series of four separate retreats, held once a year, during which we tackle difficult topics our youth experience at school and in society and how our faith frames these experiences. The retreat weekends are developmentally appropriate and are facilitated by youth ministers from around the Diocese under the leadership of the Director of Youth and Young Adults. Sessions feature professionals on each topic who work with young people on a regular basis in the area in which they are presenting.

The purpose of the Created in the Image series is to give teenagers in the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma a safe place to discuss important issues in a faith-based context. Created in the Image reminds each of us that we are all created in the image of God and reinforces our Baptismal promise of respect and dignity. The program recognizes the primary role of parents in helping teens understand these topics while giving high school age students  some independence in a safe community to discuss these topics and their faith.

When a youth registers for Created in the Image parents/guardians will have the option of being placed into a discussion group on Basecamp (a project management and networking site) to receive information and updates regarding what youth will be discussing as well as program materials and tools for the continuing the conversations at home.

Year 1: Faith and Our Identities and Relationships (Sexuality, Body Image, and Romance)
Year 2: Faith and Our Bodies (Drugs, Alcohol, and Eating Disorders)
Year 3: Faith and Our Mental Health (Anxiety, Depression, and Suicide)
Year 4: Faith and the World (Peer Pressure, Social Media, and Cultural Pressures)

If a youth attends each year of high school they will graduate from the Created in the Image program. Youth who complete all four years will receive recognition from the Diocese at their home congregation.
