Marriage Matters is an opportunity to delve into your relationship with your spouse and strengthen your communication, connection, and conflict resolution skills.  You'll learn about yourself and each other as you define your core values and learn how to build each other up to be your healthiest selves.  Licensed Counselor Tara Fritsch draws on the work of Brene Brown, John & Julie Gottman, and others. The Rev. Kirsten Baer will lead you through making a Sabbath discipline for refreshment, growth, and joy.

Due to the intentionality of these conversations, and the need to have some marriage experience to draw on, we recommend couples be married for a year before attending. While children are an important part of marriage, we encourage you to use this retreat as an opportunity to leave them with an aunt, uncle, friend, or grandparent so that you can focus on you and your spouse.

On this retreat you will have intentionally thoughtful conversations with your spouse, time for reflection, tools for growth and discovery, time with your spouse, and time to connect with others from the diocese while at beautiful St. Crispin's.

Topics include:

"Values Light the Way"
Framing a couples core values together and defining what's most important.  Building on the work of Brene Brown

"Bids for Connection"
Session about being intentional and going deeper in your care and connection with one another. Supported by Gottman's research on connection and relationships.

"Fighting the Good Fight"
Practical tips for fighting in healthy ways that resolve issues and open up further connection rather then disconnection

"Share Triggers and Shame Shields"
Learning about you (and your spouse's) triggers and defenses so that you can be a healthier you and support one another better

"Sabbath & Delight"
