Archive Update from Pam Bell

While everyone from the Diocesan office was participating in the annual Diocesan convention at St. Crispin’s, there was a waterfall in the archive cascading down Bishop McAllister’s and Moody’s historical papers.

While everyone from the Diocesan office was participating in the annual Diocesan convention at St. Crispin’s, there was a waterfall in the archive cascading down Bishop McAllister’s and Moody’s historical papers.

The archive water sprinkler system that is meant to save the documents from disaster, caused its own disaster. The incoming water pipe had built up sediment causing a pinhole leak. I quickly found out how much water a pinhole can gush!

Services were immediately called for water abetment and pipe repair, but not before many boxes were soaked. Service Master was very helpful in treating the water area and the documents were saved from mold and warping. Once the dry documents were returned, they had to be sorted and re-boxed. It was a perfect time to initiate a proper sort since the material was never cataloged and many files were mixed. Of course, that has led to more filing and more time to restore pre-disaster order within the archive space.

The good news is the documents were saved and we haven’t lost any Bishop McAllister and Bishop Moody’s history. Now, to get busy re-filing and covering the shelves in plastic before moving forward with the 2022 scheduled projects!
