All are invited to Naucratius Oklahoma's first deer harvesting event at St. Crispin’s on December 2nd. Naucratius is partnering with the Treaty People of Seminole Nation and Oklahoma Wildlife Department to provide a public deer processing and hide tanning demonstration along with Native vendors and entertainment. Processing begins at 8am followed by a FREE lunch at noon and singing and dancing until 7pm.

The goal for the event is to foster a deeper relationship with the Seminole people whose land St. Crispin’s lies within. Naucratius is also bringing awareness to the overpopulation of the deer herd in and around the property of St. Crispin’s and humanity’s role in managing the herd. The property has never been hunted since the Diocese of Oklahoma has owned it so we hope to make this an annual event to be good stewards of God’s gifts of the land. All of the venison meat will be donated to Seminole Nation’s Food Assistance Program.

Hunters and anglers play a critical role not only in managing wildlife populations but also in financing (through taxes on all hunting/fishing equipment google the Pittman-Robertson Act) wildlife conservation and public access to natural resources around the country. And in theological terms, Naucratius teaches that all animals are a gift from God and should be treated as such. There is more than enough wildlife to feed our communities and we thank God for that abundance and the opportunity to be more connected to where our food comes from. If you want to learn more about Naucratius and our Pig Hunt coming up in March 2024 please reach out to Mother Sarah Smith at mothersarah@emmanuelshawnee.com.
