St. Andrew's, Stillwater Calls the Rev. Michael Matkin as new Rector

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma announced the call of its new Rector yesterday, the Rev. Michael Matkin.

Fr. Michael is currently serving as Curate at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Shawnee, OK. He has a degree in history from the University of Tulsa and did graduate work in early church history at Regent College in Vancouver, BC. He is the author of two books on early church history: The Complete Idiot’s Guide to the Gnostic Gospels and The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Early Christianity, as well as other books and articles.

He is married to his "partner in crime" Christine, a pharmacist and they have two daughters Emily (in her second year at Texas A&M) and Elaina (junior in High School) who are both originally from China.

Fr. Michael states, "I am convinced that St. Andrew’s is called to and capable of being at the forefront of what God is doing in Stillwater, so I am honored to be invited to serve as your new Rector and I am excited to be saddling up for this adventure with all of you.”

Bishop Poulson expresses his enthusiasm for the call as well saying, “Michael is a gem! He may be a relatively new Episcopal priest, but he has a wealth of experience in growing churches. And he and his family have great love for Stillwater.”

Bishop Poulson also thanks the Rev. Dr. Mary Korte for her leadership as Interim Rector at St. Andrew’s during such unprecedented times.

Fr. Michael will conclude his time at Emmanuel on Dec. 13th, St. Lucy’s Day and begin his duties at St. Andrew’s on Jan 1st, New Year’s Day.
