The Standing Committee has recently announced the names of members
of the Electing/Transition Committee. These committee members have the important task of nurturing and
shepherd the nominees for the position of Bishop through the process from the
moment of the announcement of their names until the installation of the elected
Bishop. This period of transition is obviously
an important time for each of the candidates, as they seek to discern their
calling to be Bishop of Oklahoma and become acquainted with the clergy and
parishioners of this diocese. The
Transition Committee will be guiding the nominees through every stage of this
process, making sure all nominees and their families are met with holy
hospitality, care and respect, upholding the dignity of everyone involved.
The Transition Committee will also be responsible for:
- providing ways for the nominees to make themselves known throughout the Diocese, including planning “walkabout” events in various parts of the state during which members of the diocese may meet and ask questions of the nominees;
- providing pastoral care to the diocesan staff from now and through the time of Bishop Ed’s retirement;
planning the Electing Convention; - providing pastoral care to those nominees not elected and to their families, both during the Electing Convention and in the months following;
- planning and implementing celebrations of Bishop Ed’s and Debbie’s ministries and leadership in our Diocese (in consultation the Bishop Ed);
- oversight and coordination of the giving of gifts to the Konieczny’s; and
- communicating details of all of these events across the diocese.
The Standing Committee has charged the Transition Committee with maintaining neutrality during this process, ensuring that all nominees in the process are treated fairly and respectfully. We ask for your prayers for the Transition Committee as they undertake this important work.
The Transition Committee names are listed here (note: Fr. Jeff Huston added).
