As part of Bishop Poulson’s priority of congregational vitality, the Office of Latino/Hispanic Ministries of the Episcopal Church is offering its New Camino course in our diocese in June. This course will begin to train congregational teams to offer Latino ministry throughout the Diocese. This course will gather interested congregations to learn about how primarily “Anglo” congregations can reach out to Latino neighbors, mostly in English but in culturally open and sensitive ways. Current research suggests that many of our Latino neighbors are culturally and linguistically open to worshiping with English-speaking congregations. New Camino specifically aims to helping Episcopal congregations wanting to explore this English-based, Latino ministry option. A full description is attached. Many thanks to the Episcopal Church’s Ethnic Ministry Office for providing this training and two trainers in our Diocese without cost. The Diocese is underwriting the expenses for other trainers who are not staff members of the Episcopal Church. St. James’ is providing the location. The only fee being charged is to contribute to the cost of the meals. Participants and congregations need to fund travel expenses. If you cannot afford travel, contact Canon Steve Carlsen, canonsteve@epiok.org.
Leading this course will be the Rev. Canon Anthony Guillén, the Missioner for Latino/Hispanic Ministries and Director of Ethnic Ministries for the The Episcopal Church. He will by joined other national church-wide Latino leaders from the Episcopal Church.

All are welcome, but teams of 3-5 from interested congregations are encouraged to attend. Following this training, congregational teams will be invited to join a New Camino Cohort. This learning community will offer ongoing support as we develop ministries to reach out to our Latino neighbors. We will meet several times a year online and occasionally in person to share our successes, learn from our failures, and listen for God’s call as we walk this new path. Please contact Canon Steve Carlsen, canonsteve@epiok.org, or more information.
