Summer Camp Cancelled

Summer Camp Cancelled

A message from the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma and St. Crispin's Summer Camp on the decision to cancelled Summer Camp 2020.

May 18, 2020

Dear Camp Families,

After much prayer, reflection, and research we have decided to cancel Summer Camp for the 2020 season. This decision was made with heavy hearts but made out of love and is rooted in the call from our Baptismal Covenant to seek and serve Christ in all persons. We care deeply for our campers, our staff, our families, and for the future of St. Crispin’s Summer Camp and we cannot adequately guarantee that operating camp this summer can be done safely, even with strict social distancing and cleaning procedures in place.

This decision was incredibly difficult and arrived at by following information made available by the CDC, the American Camp Association (ACA), the Episcopal Camps and Conference Centers Association (ECCC), and medical professionals. We also listened to the concerns of parents and clergy who reached out throughout our discernment process. Collaboratively, Bishop Ed, and staff from both St. Crispin’s and the Diocesan Office, decided that we were not willing to jeopardize the safety of our campers, or the summer camp program.

We know how much you look forward to summer camp every year, and we know this leaves a void. Like you we will miss the laughter, singing, and the Christian Community that we all share, but we believe that making a decision now is in the best interest of all. This will allow camp families time to plan the summer for their children. We take seriously our job of ensuring that St. Crispin’s remains a safe and sacred place. We owe it to you, our Camp Family, to make this tough decision now, in order to ensure that St. Crispin’s Summer Camp is here for generations to come.

If your family was registered for Summer 2020, you’ll be receiving an email from us no later than May 20th with information regarding refunds, scholarships, and donations. St. Crispin's Summer Camp and the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma are committed to refunding all balances and deposits paid, however St. Crispin’s has suffered the negative financial impacts of this pandemic. If you are able to help, we would ask you to consider converting your deposit, or some portion of it, into a donation.

Thank you for the trust you have given us and for your constant support. Please keep St. Crispin’s and the Episcopal Diocese in your prayers as we move toward Summer 2021, and know we lift our prayers for each and every one of you. We can't wait to see you all back on Highway 9 as soon as it is safe and possible!
