On November 20, the leadership of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Bartlesville held a special event to dedicate one of their properties to their local Family Promise Organization to offer as transitional housing to families. The mission of Family Promise of Washington County is to help homeless families achieve independence though a community-based response. Family Promise coordinates local efforts which encourage the community to help families experiencing homelessness regain their housing, their independence
, and their dignity.
As part of the dedication, the leadership decided to name the house “The Stephens House” in honor of The Rev. Dr. Lee Stephens, eleventh Rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, and his wife, Lynda. For over two decades Fr. Lee and Lynda were faithful shepherds of St. Luke’s. The property was named as a memorial to their ministry at St. Luke’s and as a lasting witness to their support of Family Promise.
In addition, the city of Bartlesville agreed to rename the corner where the house is located “Droege Corner” in honor of the hard work and dedication of the Droege Family, particularly Dan Droege. Dan (along with the help of many of his family members) has worked tirelessly to maintain and improve The Stephens House to make it beautiful for any family placed there. The mayor, Dale Copeland, was in attendance to present Dan with an official proclamation.
