National Acolyte Festival

National Acolyte Festival

On Saturday, Oct. 12, five adult and youth acolytes from St. John’s Episcopal Church, OKC along with Patricia Riden, Acolyte Master, the Rev. Lisa Chronister and their adult sponsors attended the National Acolyte Festival at the Washington National Cathedral.  This was the sixth time that St. John’s has attended the festival, and the ten-year anniversary of our first bi-annual trip to Washington D.C. in 2009. In special recognition of our support of the National Acolyte Festival, one of our adult acolytes, Erin Hensley, pictured far right, was asked to read the first lesson during the Eucharist.

The excursion to Washington included five days total of traveling, touring the National Mall and museums, learning about our heritage as nation, as well as experiencing the wider church in action at the National Cathedral.
This year’s acolyte festival can be viewed on YouTube by following the link below.  Our acolytes process in at 46:15, and the first reading takes place at 1:02:58.
