Celebration of New Ministry of the Rev. Tom Dahlman

Celebration of New Ministry of the Rev. Tom Dahlman

On Saturday, February 3rd, the Rev. Tom Dahlman was officially installed and welcomed as Rector of Emmanuel, Shawnee in a joyous Celebration of New Ministry service celebrated by Bishop Edward J. Konieczny.

The service began with the formal Institution, where leaders from Emmanuel presented Fr. Tom to Bishop Ed as their new chosen Rector. Bishop Ed then read aloud the Letter of Institution, which outlines Fr. Tom’s new role and responsibilities as Rector of the Emmanuel and as a priest of the Diocese of Oklahoma. The congregation then joined in prayer for Fr. Tom, Emmanuel, and numerous ministries and those in need.

The service continued with an energetic sermon from the Rev. Shelby Scott, in which he discussed the many gifts Fr. Tom has and offered best wishes for both Fr. Tom and Emmanuel as they embark on this next chapter in their ministry journey together.

Next came the Induction portion of the service, where Fr. Tom was presented with several gifts from the Bishop, diocesan clergy, and members of the leadership of Emmanuel. Each gift symbolized an aspect of Fr. Tom’s new ministry at Emmanuel: a Bible, water, a stole, a sack lunch, a Book of Common Prayer, oil, keys, a copy of the Constitution and Canons, and bread and wine.

Upon completion of this portion of the service, Fr. Tom knelt in the aisle in the middle of the congregation to offer prayers for his commitment and new ministry at Emmanuel. Bishop Ed then officially present Fr. Tom, his wife Alexis, and their children, Bella and Booker, to the congregation; and they were warmly and joyously welcomed with a round of applause.
Upon completion of the service, Emmanuel offered a friendly and celebratory reception for all in attendance.
