On Saturday, June 29th, at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Oklahoma City, Ann Murray, Stephen Miller, Michael Clements, and Mary Ann Coffman were ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacons by Bishop Edward J. Konieczny.
The joyful service began with Ann, Stephen, Michael, and Mary Ann being presented for Ordination by members of their community. After affirming that they are ready to be ordained, each person signed the Declaration attesting their commitment to the “…doctrine, discipline, and worship…” of The Episcopal Church. The service continued with Bishop Ed leading the congregation in the Litany of Ordinations, offering prayers for those in need, the Church, the world, and those being ordained.
After the Scripture readings, Canon for Clergy Transitions & Congregational Life, the Rev. Canon Dr. Bill Carroll offered a powerful sermon discussing the joys and challenges of ordained ministry. He offered guidance and affirmations for those being ordained as they embark upon this next step in their journey.Bishop Ed continued the service by leading the Examination of Deacons, followed by the Ordination and Consecration. Bishop Ed then laid his hands upon each person’s head to usher him or her into the Sacred Order of Deacons. This was truly a joyful and powerful moment for all.
Ann, Stephen, Michael, and Mary Ann were then vested by their loved ones and formally introduced to the congregation as the newest deacons in The Episcopal Church. Those present in the congregation shared in celebratory and joyful applause!
The service continued with Communion, and celebratory prayers and songs. St. Paul’s Cathedral offered a vibrant reception with all those celebrating Ann, Stephen, Michael, and Mary Ann’s next step in their spiritual journey. It was truly a joyous celebration for all!
