By St. Augustine of Canterbury, Oklahoma City
Congresswoman Kendra Horn, serving the 5th District of Oklahoma, invited Father Joseph Alsay, Rector of St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church in Oklahoma City to be her personal guest for the State of the Union (SOTU) on Wednesday, February 6th.
In addition to attending the SOTU evening events and time with Rep. Horn, Fr. Joe was also able to participate in the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, February 7th.
The trip also included meeting and spending time visiting with House Chaplain Patrick Conroy, Congressman and Civil Rights Leader John Lewis (Atlanta, GA), and our very own Presiding Bishop, the Most Rev. Michael Curry.
In Fr. Joe's own words, the trip was, "Exhilarating, exhausting, and elating...I feel honored that St. Augustine's own Kendra Horn invited me as her guest to these incredible events. Meeting and seeing so many notable individuals you often only hear or read about, including one of my own heroes, John Lewis, was an experience I'll never forget. It was really wonderful to spend time with the PB and House Chaplain as well."
