Ordination of the Rev. Beth Bell

Ordination of the Rev. Beth Bell

This past Friday, June 8th, at Church of the Resurrection, Oklahoma City, the Rev. Beth Bell was ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests by Bishop Edward J. Konieczny. The parish was full of those ready to join in this celebratory event with Beth, a long-serving deacon of the diocese. Beth served for many years at Resurrection, the parish that sponsored her for ordination to the Sacred Priesthood.

After a joyful procession, Beth was presented by her husband, Rex, and the Revs. Sean Ekberg and Tracey Carroll for Ordination. All joined in the Litany for Ordinations, sung prayers for the Church, its leaders, its mission, the needs of the world, and ”Beth, chosen priest in your Church.”

After the Scripture readings, Rector of Church of the Resurrection, Oklahoma City, the Rev. Sean Ekberg, delivered a sermon that was a mix of humor, honesty, and sincerity. He offered advice about the priesthood and what it means to live into this exciting call from God. He then offered Beth some words of reflection on her journey up to this point and profound words of affirmation and encouragement for her ministry as a priest.

The service continued with the Examination, followed by the Consecration. After leading the congregation in the Veni Creator Spiritus, an ancient hymn to the Holy Spirit, as well as a period of solemn, silent prayer, Bishop Ed laid his hands upon Beth’s head to pray the Prayer of Consecration. Priests from across the diocese joined with our Bishop in the laying on of hands.  Beth was then vested by loved ones and introduced by Bishop Ed as the newest priest in The Episcopal Church. The congregation erupted in applause and celebration!

The service continued with Communion and joyful music offered by the Church of the Resurrection music team. Members of Resurrection provided warm hospitality and a wonderful, festive reception for the new priest, her family, and all in attendance.
The Rev. Beth Bell has been assigned to serve at St. David’s, Oklahoma City as an Assisting Priest.
