Each year on Holy Monday, clergy of our diocese join together with Bishop Ed to renew their ordination vows, receive their new oils for the year, and celebrate the beginning of Holy Week.
At this year’s service, Bishop Ed invited the Rev. Canon Susan Brown Snook, Canon for Church Growth and Development, to preach. Canon Susan delivered an inspiring sermon using imagery of a border town to describe the life and service of clergy. She preached about how clergy are asked to constantly balance two worlds and flow between them as they function as missionaries and ministers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The service continued with the Reaffirmation of Ordination Vows. Bishop Ed led the clergy through a series of questions providing an opportunity for clergy to renew their commitment to God and God’s People. After the exchange of the Peace, Bishop Ed blessed the Holy oils for clergy present to take back to their congregations for use throughout the year, especially in Holy Baptism and the ministry of healing.Upon the conclusion of the service, Bishop Ed and the clergy enjoyed fellowship together and a wonderful luncheon provided by St. Paul’s Cathedral. It was a moving service and a perfect beginning to Holy Week.
