Ordination of Graham Alan Marsh

Ordination of Graham Alan Marsh

This past Friday, December 7th, at All Souls' Episcopal Church in Oklahoma City, the Rev. Graham Alan Marsh was ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests by Bishop Edward J. Konieczny. This beautiful ordination service followed the traditional liturgy of the 1928 Book of Common Prayer.

The joyful choir led the procession and welcomed us into the service, and as the congregation joined in, the sanctuary rang with beautiful music. The Rev. Dr. Gordon Graham then delivered a rich, passionate sermon, reminding us all of the true vocations of both priest and parishioner. He expressed the importance of both the roles of shepherd and sheep in ministry, reminding us that it is just as important to know how to follow, as to know how to lead. He spoke of the sacred, reverent, and humbling actions about to be taken by Graham in his offering of himself to God’s will. He also reminded us that we are all called to follow God’s will, each with our own true vocations.

Upon conclusion of the sermon, members of Graham’s community formally presented him to Bishop Ed for ordination. During the following sung Litany for Ordinations, Graham displayed his complete reverence of and submission to the Lord and His will by completely prostrating.

The Suffrages for Ordinations followed, with all joining in prayer for Graham, the Church, the world, and all those in need. After the Scripture readings, the Bishop led the formal Exhortation and Examination of the Candidate. Graham then stated his own readiness for this next step in his ministry. After Bishop Ed then led the congregation in prayers, he placed his hands upon Graham’s head, ushering him into the Sacred Order of Priests. As he did, priests from around the diocese joined in the powerful moment by surrounding Graham and placing their hands on him as well. The new priest was then presented with vestments from loved ones, and received a Bible and a Chalice from Bishop Ed. The service continued with Communion, with Graham serving alongside Bishop Ed.

Upon the conclusion of the service, the All Souls’ ECW and hospitality team offered a full and rich celebratory reception dinner for all. It was a truly warm welcome to all those in attendance.

Fr. Marsh is serving as an assisting priest at All Souls’.
