On Saturday, January 27th, Church of the Resurrection, Oklahoma City officially welcomed their new Rector! Bishop Edward J. Konieczny celebrated a cheerful Celebration of New Ministry service officially installing the Rev. Sean Ekberg as Rector.
The service began with a beautiful procession, which included numerous members of diocesan clergy. The Institution portion of the service followed, with members of Church of the Resurrection’s leadership presenting Fr. Sean to Bishop Ed for installation. Bishop Ed then read aloud the Letter of Institution, which outlines Fr. Sean’s new role and responsibilities as Rector of the Church of the Resurrection and as a priest of the Diocese of Oklahoma. The congregation then joined in united prayer for numerous people, ministries, communities, and those in need.
The Rev. Tom Dahlman gave a joyful sermon, in which he shared memories of working with Fr. Sean and celebrated this next step in his ministry journey with Church of the Resurrection. Following, Fr. Sean was presented with numerous symbolic gifts from the Bishop, leaders of Church of the Resurrection, and diocesan clergy. These gifts included: a Bible, water, a stole, a Book of Common Prayer, oil, keys, a copy of the Constitution and Canons, bread and wine, and a gift. After this presentation, Fr. Sean knelt in the midst of the congregation to offer a prayer for this new ministry and Church of the Resurrection. After which, Fr. Sean and his wife Nicole were energetically welcomed and celebrated with a round of applause from the congregation.
The service was followed by a joyful reception, provided by the warm hospitality of Church of the Resurrection leaders and volunteers.
