Canon Betsy & Gardner run the OKC Marathon

This past weekend, our own Canon to the Ordinary, the Rev. Betsy Randall, ran the half-marathon at the OKC Memorial Marathon, and her husband, Gardner, ran the full marathon.

In 2024, Gardner ran the full marathon while Canon Betsy cheered him on. In 2025, Gardner returned to run the half-marathon. He shared a bit about what inspired him to participate:

“The story for me and the Memorial Marathon began when we came to Oklahoma City for the first time, and it was the day that Betsy interviewed at the Diocese. I went to the museum for the first time and was so moved and inspired by the "Oklahoma Standard" and what it meant to take action in a time of need.”

He went on to describe just how meaningful the event is:

“The Memorial Marathon Run to Remember is just that, a very purposeful race with the spirit of Oklahoma City behind it. The events leading up to the weekend, the variety of race options, and volunteer options demonstrate the wonderful, caring attitude of Oklahoma City.  There is something for everyone if you want to be involved. It's so nice to participate in something with 30,000 of your best friends, all having a unified goal of remembering those that we lost and supporting the survivors and their families through the Memorial Museum. It's quite a gift to be able to participate in something with a greater purpose. For me, that has been a big part of why this event is inspiring. I encourage anybody that is thinking about it to try it.”

After cheering on Gardner the past two years, Canon Betsy decided to give it a try herself. She shared why she chose to run the half-marathon this year:

“I was inspired by the purpose. The race remembers those lost in the bombing and celebrates the powerful and loving response shown by this city.

As I ran, I marveled at the diversity of those who participated: the runners, volunteers, and cheering crowds. The enthusiasm and joy is contagious and serves as a beautiful reminder of how love can bring healing and redemption to the darkest of times.”

We are so proud of Canon Betsy, Gardner, and all of the runners who participated in the OKC Memorial Marathon.
