Staff Transition
Dear Friends,
We are excited to announce a staff transition within our Diocesan Offices. Kate Carney Bond will be moving from her role as Director of Faith Formation and Discipleship to serve as the new Canon for Congregational Vitality.
Canon Steve will continue serving on our Diocesan Staff in a new capacity as Canon for Strategic Projects. In this role, he will offer his expertise in congregational development and vitality in focused ways. His first project will be serving as Interim Priest at Trinity, Tulsa, where he will guide and advise parish leadership through their season of transition.
Since 2019, Kate has provided faithful leadership in faith formation and has been instrumental in launching several key vitality initiatives. She brings a deep understanding of parish life and a strong vision for church vitality. Kate is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree at Virginia Theological Seminary.
Bishop Poulson shares his thoughts on the appointment, “Supporting the vitality of our congregations has been my primary goal as Bishop, and the primary goal of our diocesan staff, with Canon Steve skillfully leading our efforts. I am delighted to appoint Kate Bond as our next Canon for Congregational Vitality. Kate has a long history of impactful lay ministry in our diocese, and has served exceptionally on our diocesan staff since January 2019. She and Canon Steve have worked closely on congregational vitality since his arrival, gathering and interpreting data and helping set the direction of our trainings and initiatives. Fortunately, we will continue to have Canon Steve’s expertise in vitality, but with a more project-based focus, as Canon for Strategic Projects. The first of these projects is his work as interim priest and vitality consultant at Trinity, Tulsa.”
Canon Steve shared his thoughts about the transition, “Canon Kate's efforts building up the vitality of our congregations began before I arrived in the diocese and her work has been central to all the work our team has been able to accomplish over the past four years. I have complete confidence that she will advance vitality efforts in our congregations, even as I look forward to digging into some focused work beginning at Trinity, Tulsa.”
Kate shared her thoughts on the new role, “As someone who grew up in the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma, I have a deep love and appreciation for the ministry we find in every one of our congregations. I am excited to continue building on the strong foundations laid by Canon Steve in supporting and resourcing congregations for the work of vitality. In particular, I am looking forward to spending time working with congregational leaders, lay and ordained, as we do the essential work of discerning God's call to us and the ways to continue to meet God in the world.”
Join us in offering prayers for Canon Kate and Canon Steve as they continue their faithful service among us.
