Intern for Native Ministry

Friends, we are pleased to announce a new role within our Diocese. The Diocesan part-time Intern for Native Ministry. Ethan Waquie will serve as the new Intern; his first day was Tuesday, September 1st, Oakerhater’s Feast Day.

A citizen of the Mvskoke (Creek) Nation, Ethan centers his work on the intersection of faith, community, and indigenous language revitalization. He earned his Interdisciplinary degree from Oklahoma State University and holds certificates in both Mvskoke Language and Mvskoke Language Teaching from the College of the Muscogee Nation. Ethan faithfully serves at The Episcopal Church of The Redeemer in Okmulgee, OK, and spends his free time studying local ecology and tending his garden.

Bishop Poulson said of the appointment, “To have Ethan as our part-time intern in this role this year is an investment in his growth as a faith leader, and also gives structure to a ministry he has been exercising for a while now: connecting our Episcopal communities, especially in Okmulgee and Watonga, with tribal and other community members and resources, in partnership.”
