Oakerhater Sunday at St. Paul's, OKC
September 1

St. Paul's Cathedral in Oklahoma City hosts their annual Oakerhater Sunday Service on September 1, 2019 at the 9am and 11am service.  Harvey Pratt will be the guest preacher.  A question and answer forum will take place between services to learn more from Harvey.

Harvey is a member of the 44 Cheyenne Peace Chiefs, a world renowned Cheyenne and Arapaho artist and marine veteran.  He is also a retired OBSI forensic artist and has helped solve many high profile murder cases.  Most recently, his work was selected by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian to be the design for the National Native American Veterans Memorial: Cheyenne and Arapaho artist Harvey Pratt’s Warriors’ Circle of Honor will be located on the museum grounds on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

In conjunction with the Oakerhater Honor Dance at Whirlwind Mission on September 14th at 3:30pm, this day serves to remember, honor and learn about the legacy of David Pendleton Oakerhater, the first Native American to be ordained a Deacon and the Native American history in Oklahoma and the Episcopal Church.

We hope you will join us in both of these wonderful celebrations that will incorporate many Native American traditions such as drumming, dancing and singing!  To learn more, watch the video below featuring Dr. Blue Clark and Mr. Buzz McDonald.
