How We Worship

How We Worship

In Episcopal worship, we nurture our faith by celebrating Holy Communion most Sundays. We engage our minds through reading Holy Scripture and hearing a thought-provoking sermon. We engage our senses through beautiful, reverent surroundings and often through music that touches the mind and the heart, in the rich, diverse Anglican and American musical traditions.

If you visit an Episcopal church for Sunday worship, you will find it:

  • Sacramental - almost always celebrating the Eucharist, also known as Holy Communion, the Lord's Supper, or the Mass;
  • Reverent - treating our worship as the vital act of experiencing God's love for us;
  • Biblical - reading extensive selections from Scripture each Sunday;
  • Thoughtful - unpacking those Scriptures with an engaging sermon that welcomes and evokes deep questions and applies them to real life;
  • Joy-Filled - finding deep fulfillment in communion with Christ and one another.
