Guidelines for Healthy Congregations

Guidelines for Healthy Congregations

Printed copies are available from the diocesan office by request.

The Diocese of Oklahoma invites you to consider and use our new offering, Guidelines for Healthy Congregations. This document, presented in easy-to-use checklist format, is intended to help your congregation consider its ministries, policies, governance, and accounting systems, and discover opportunities for growth. It is divided into three major categories of Guidelines:

Ministry and Discipleship;
Finances, Stewardship, and Facilities; and
Governance, Administration, Safety, and Policies

Each section has guidelines that are basic requirements for all congregations; best practices for all congregations; and recommendations for further growth.

The Guidelines are not intended to be new requirements, but rather a handy and useful set of tools gathered in one place for your congregation’s leadership to use. We suggest that you can use them by devoting a vestry meeting or workshop to them, appointing groups to look at each set of guidelines independently and report to the vestry, or asking ministry leaders to review their areas. Our diocese hopes that all congregations can benefit from a self-assessment of their ministries and policies. A number of leaders throughout our diocese helped with suggestions for these Guidelines, and we offer thanks to all who helped.

You can find the Guidelines in electronic form here. Printed copies are available from the diocesan office by request.
