Idabel Tornado Assistance

Below you will see the latest update from the Reverend Gloria Walters about St. Luke's response to the devastating tornado in Idabel. While St. Luke's building was not damaged, several parishioners' homes were, and the community of Idabel has many short and long-term needs as a result of this crisis. To help Mother Gloria and St. Luke's in their relief efforts in Idabel, please join me and our diocese by sending funds. And please hold all those affected in your prayers.

Message from Mother Gloria:

1. We are partnering with Phatt Tabb’s, a barbecue restaurant owned and run by a family in our church, that has been providing food for first responders, construction workers, linemen, and crews for clean up. They have a network of fellow pit-masters who are coming in to work with them. Funding has been coming in through Tabb, our church, and other concerned friends as we continue to feed those working in our community. We are also housing the pit-masters in our parish hall. There are no available rooms in Idabel or Broken Bow at this time. We currently have the funding for this outreach.

2. A longer term problem is the increased number of those who will be experiencing food insufficiency. Many businesses were destroyed and people are out of jobs who already live pay check to pay check. We have a large blessing box and already have trouble keeping it filled because of the need. We would like to step up our blessing box ministry to feed more people but are limited by the size of our congregation despite their generosity. If we could have more funds, we would order food to keep it stocked in this time of crisis in our community. Our church is committed to feeding the hungry.

3. We ask for the prayers of the diocese as our community finds its way through this challenging time.
