Grace Ponca City Joins Local Ministry for a Workday

Grace Episcopal Church in Ponca City made a recent connection with a local ministry called Broken Heart Ministries. Originally founded to help folks struggling with addiction toward recovery, Broken Heart had been in a long hiatus until it was recently resurrected by a committed group of people with close connection to both the ministry and to Ponca City.

An article about the re-launch appeared in the Ponca City Newspaper asking for the community to help with a restoration project of an historic AME church on South 12th Street, which had once served as its headquarters. Grace Church Outreach Coordinator, Casey Orr, saw the newspaper article about the project and sent it along to Fr. Caleb Roberts, who made contact with Pastor Roderick Lewis, the director of Broken Heart Ministries.

The AME church had been vacant for over a decade and had become dilapidated, so several weeks ago, Grace Church sent several members to help the Broken Heart team for a workday at the historic church. The members included Senior Warden Richard Winterrowd, Fr. Caleb Roberts, and Casey Orr.

The long-term goal is to restore the church so Broken Heart Ministries can set up their operation in the building to begin helping folks in need in Ponca City again.
