Saint Patrick’s Youth Service Project Sunday

Serving and connecting with the community around your church is a vital part of congregation life. For Saint Patricks Episcopal Church in Tulsa, they have challenged their youth group to participate in a monthly service project! This past month, Saint Patrick's Youth (SPY) made 50 bagged lunches for Share-A-Meal Tulsa. Share-A-Meal trucks provide food and other resources to the people in the Tulsa area.  They provide a way to connect with people outside of Tulsa's downtown by creating relationships and sharing food. On the truck Share-A-Meal  also offers an onboard outreach office to work on housing or a quiet place to pray with friends.

SPY planned, prepared and bagged 100 sandwiches for Share-A-Meal! Each lunch bag contained other lunch items such as, bottles of water, a bag of chips, a sweet treat, and a snack.

Justin Dixon, Youth Minister and SPY director at Saint Patricks commented on the service project, "I found it so amazing the amount of fun we had during the service project (a characteristic of this group), being silly, laughing, and chatting all while working hard. What better way to love and serve others than to do it while having fun and sharing lots of laughs! I am very proud of SPY. They set an example for us all!"

Justin also had a special thanks to the people who help SPY work, "SPY could not meet like we do each week if it were not for the many beautiful people of our parish who provide meals for us each Sunday and our chaperones like Bricelyn Schmeeckle, Allyson Cauthon, Jacki Adair, and Abby Kimbrough."

Justin commented on furture collaborations with Share-A-Meal Tulsa, "SPY did a great job preparing the lunches for the homeless and food insecure in the Tulsa area. It was decided that we will partner with Share-A-Meal Tulsa for 2022 by providing bagged lunches once a month!"
